Instructive Article about Lubricants, Sperm Motility, and Fertility

Did you know that the type of lubricant you are using may affect sperm motility?

We are always reading up on the recent studies coming out in medical journals. For people trying to get pregnant, whether or not the issue is on the male side, this new research may help.

In a study published in Fertility and Sterility in May 2014, it was found that coital lubricants and synthetic and natural oils can affect sperm motility. Sesame oil and synthetic coital lubricants impaired sperm motility and may hamper fertility. Pre-seed and canola, mustard, and baby oils showed no deleterious effect and may be considered sperm-friendly coital lubricants. Mustard oil exposure resulted in hyper-activation of sperm and needs to be studied further. Our recommendation? Stick with lubricants that did not show that they hamper fertility.
